I’ve often said that the traditional cockney traditions moved up the A13 to Essex. I was born in Essex to an Essex mother and Yorkshire father and grew up in Woodford Green, which itself is subject to a fierce debate over whether or not it’s Essex or East London and my identity has always been a bit muddled.
