One assignment involved a one page report/presentation on a short book of your choice (from a list). The other two assignments offered a choice of writing a 5 page short story or 5 poems. Some are animal science. Others do Chemistry, Women & Gender Studies, English, Poli Sci, Russian, comp sci, etc etc.
